There is no better feeling in the world than sitting in your night-class with a bunch of other tired teachers listening to the ramblings of your 80-year-old-professor when it is announced that school has been cancelled the next day due to the cold. Our entire class erupted in joy leaving our teacher to fight a battle of regaining our attention, knowing that he would not win. Eventually he forfeited and told us to go to the nearest bar to celebrate.

So what does one do with their entire day off?!
(Well, thanks for asking...)
*
I took this day off as a sign from God that he would like me to be reunited with my cell phone.
So I drove down to Roseville to get it. In order to thank God for this wonderful day off, I also surprised myself in a few ways today...

My mother extended an invitation for me to attend Bible study with her and my father this morning, an invitation I actually accepted. My parents attend Bible study each week where they are the youngest people there. (Keep in mind my parents are in their 60's.) After many jokes of making fun of them for hanging out with people too old for them, I thought I'd see what all the fuss is about that attracts them to spend so much of their time at
So, I Showed up for Bible study at 10:00am this morning and the following is what I learned in my short hour of reflecting on the worlds most popular text:
*
1. There are too many people in the Bible, I cannot keep them all straight.
-
2. It's harder to keep things straight when you have people who are old trying to explain the story line and they say 3-4 names before getting to the one they actually mean. (Like when your parents yell out all your sibling's names before actually getting to yours.)
-
3. They serve awful coffee.
-
4. People who are old laugh at really lame jokes.
-
5. God implements his work through people around us everyday.
-
6. Pastor Ron is still, and will probably always be my favorite pastor. I would go to church more often is he was still alive.
-
7. I should have slept in later. It's unfair that the gentleman sitting next to me gets away with falling asleep during the session, and I wouldn't be able to get away with that.
(this is a perfect example of me being a victim of ageism.)
-
8. I look up to people who are old and still posses a witty sense of humor.
-
9. Sometimes we take God for granted. We depend more heavily on his support in times of need. I should try to be more thankful.
-
10. Although I say nightly prayers, I need to become more involved in my faith.

After Bible study, I did another thing that surprised myself...My parents and two family friends extended an invitation to join them to another Church's fundraising event. Apparently this fundraising event is an annual tradition for them to attend and you are provided a generous family-style meal. So I agreed, what else was I going to do on my day off?! So we drove to Stillwater to attend a church's annual Lutefisk dinner....wait for it....wait for it....yes folks, I said LUTEFISK.

It was like someone put fish in a blender and than stuck it in a jell-o mold! Luckily for my father and I, they had plenty of side dishes including Swedish meatballs.
So on my day off, I attended Bible study, two separate churches, and tried Lutefisk.
Amen.
