For those of you who were unable to tune-in for President
Obama's address to students on the first day of school, I have provided a link for you. Simply click on the photo above to witness a powerful message from our President that we should all take time to hear and respect. His words were powerful for me as an educator and a student obtaining a Master's degree. They inspired me to be better and take more ownership and responsibility for myself and the important role that I have while working with students everyday. During this time where I am completing my degree and feeling overwhelmed with literature reviews and action research projects President Obama reminded me that even when I am discouraged, I cannot give up because success does not come easily. I need to set goals, put objectives into perspective and never let any failure define who I am. No matter what political party you affiliate with, his words are inspiration for school aged children, adolescents and young adults. At a period in time where school drop-out rates are at their highest, his timing is priceless. When we ignore his words
due to political party, we are teaching our children that if they do not agree with a higher authority it is okay- they can turn their cheek and ignore.
What kind of example is that setting?
