New Years Day Tradition

I would have to say that one of my favorite parts of parenthood is traditions. Those little things that you make sure to keep doing week-after-week or even year-after-year. The little things that you put into place to help make life a little bit more special. One day Hannah will grow to look forward to these traditions and we cannot wait for her anticipation.
As Justin and I stared at one another blankly wondering what in the heck we were going to do today- we decided that we need to start a New Year's Day tradition.
So we had a picnic in the living room.
Every year we will order out and eat a picnic on the floor in the living room! We used to do this back in the day at the Kahler household and I remember something so simple being fun. So tonight was the first of many living room floor picnics.

Making sure Hannah honors those Asian roots, I thought tonight would be a good night to introduce her to chopsticks. I am happy to report that she is better than her father at using these utensils. (And note, she's only using one chopstick below- so we're not saying too much about her father's abilities.)

As we ate as a little family on a small spot of our living room floor. We admired that absolute clutter of toys scattered ALL OVER our house. I do not think this home will be clean and organized for another 10 years. Hannah had her own dinner, but in true form she was more interested in ours. So we shared a little rice with her and I do not think that she got a single grain in her mouth - but more importantly she had fun trying. (a.k.a. it was something to keep her entertained for the moment so mommy and daddy could eat.) The absolute best part of the meal? We stripped her down on our makeshift "table" and put her directly in the tub. I shook the "table" outside and through it in the wash. I love easy clean ups.
