Annual Spooktacular Softball Tournament

This past weekend was our second annual Spooktacular Softball Tournament hosted by Be-Bops in Blaine. It's definitely a great way to end a long season! It's not your normal softball tournament where players come pumped with steroids to win the coveted human-size trophy....it's 10x better than that! Team costumes are a must, our team was a mixture of Super Hero's and Villains.....more specifically, I was Cat Woman and Justin was Batman... Each inning is a little bit different, because it would surely be boring to have normal softball rules.... Depending on which inning it is, you could be batting opposite handed, running backwards, hitting off a tee, throwing the ball opposite handed, using a really crappy bat that is provided and so on. Basically the only rule that remains the same is that every time you hit second base, you are rewarded with a shot!....oh, and lots of beer consumption is an unwritten, but necessary rule to having fun. Saturday our team met at the bar at 3pm to start the festivities and we played 3 games. Our last game ended at 11pm, so you can just about imagine the shape we were in! We miraculously survived Saturday without elimination (I'm still trying to figure out how we managed that looking back at the poor shape our team was in.) So we were back at it, 10am on Sunday morning. (Minus any alcohol consumption) We somehow stayed in the tournament, and 4 games later were eliminated and received 4th place out of all 34 teams that registered!! After 7 games, we were pretty much okay with having to go home and finally get some rest and give our body some time to recover before the long work week.... Below are some photos of the long...but definitely fun weekend!

Although I was completely sober on Sunday, I managed to walk away with huge "softball-rashes" all over by thighs and knees from falling so much.....(hey, it's not easy running backwards!) Plus a nice big black and blue and yellow and green elbow. (Not sure how I got that one) and to top that all off, I totally blew out my bad knee again! So, unfortunately I believe the inevitable has come....I'm going to need surgery. I wish I could say that I blew it out making some grand play....but I didn't. I was running backwards and totally just felt it pop....boy did I go down like a ton of bricks! It felt the same as when I tore my ACL two years ago. Now, those who know me, know that one of my pet peeves in sports are the girls who get injured and cry their eyes out, so trying to be tough I continued to play and would not let the team take me off the field. (Dumb, dumb, dumb.) My knee is huge. I hobble around like an old lady and Justin needs to put my socks on and tie my shoes. Pathetic. So, I have lots of doctors appointments this week, as I do want a few different opinions as to how I should go about this little thing called surgery. As of today, it is not looking like I can put if off until after the school year....so maybe I'll keep searching for a doctor who says I can do it my way :) Which means, no surgery until June...I don't want to miss that much work.
(Yes, I realize I'm a horrible patient.) However, I would like to note that it was totally worth it. The tournament was a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Bummed I won't make this weekend's Champlin Park Halloween tournament. I'll be there to cheer you all on though!

I'll keep you posted on the knee-saga.
On another note- look at how BIG my boy Maximus is getting!

Oh how the time flies when your little ones are growing up!...he is already almost 6 months old!

Hope your week is off to a much better start than mine!
